Funtua LGA Chairman applauds Peace Initiative With Bandits

The Chairman of Funtua Local Government, Alhaji Abdulmutallab Sulaiman Goya, has appreciated the current Peace Accord' reached with bandit groups across several Local Government Areas in Katsina state.

Speaking during the official handing over of five rescued kidnapped victims to the Magajin Garin Maska Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, the chairman revealed that the victims were released by the Bandits at Sabuwa village, following the peace agreement recently sealed with them.

According to him, the victims, who are indigent of Maska in Funtua Local Government Area, have been in bandits captivity for about three months.

Goya stated that their release was unconditional .

Upon receiving the victims, the chairman directed that the victims will be taken to Sabuwa General Hospital for medical treatment.

Alhaji Goya expressed satisfaction with the ongoing peace process, noting that the cooperation given by the bandits for the substance of peace deal is highly commendable .

He, however, decried the persistence of attacks in some parts of Funtua, particularly around the Maska area, despite the peace agreement. 

Goya assured the public that his administration is actively engaging with those responsible for the attacks to foster dialogue, and consolidate the peace initiative for peace to thrive in Funtua, Katsina State, and Nigeria at large.

The chairman pledged continued support and cooperation with all stakeholders dedicated to safeguarding lives, property, and restoring public order within the LGA.

“My priority remains our main focus to ensure well-being of the people of Funtua Local Government. 

According to him, his doors are always open to anyone or group of people for constructive ideas and partnerships that will promote lasting peace and sustainable development in the local council.


The chairman commended the Katsina state Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda PhD, the Traditional rulers, security agencies, religious leaders, Critical stakeholders, and community leaders for their cooperation and unwavering support in the pursuit of lasting peace across the state.

In his response, the village head of Maska, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, thanked the chairman for bringing the kidnapped victims back to their families unconditionally.

He then called on the general public to intensify efforts in praying to God for the return of relative peace in the area.
