Governor Nasir Idris of kebbi State has reiterated his administration commitments towards ensuring lasting peace in the state and beyond.
The governor stated this while declaring open First 2025 Media and Security Summit organized by Kebbi State government in collaboration with Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Nasir Idris said his administration is committed and working hand in hand with the security agencies working in the state to ensure security of lives and properties of the citizens, adding that all logistics support are given to them in order to achieve their objectives.
He said the summit with the Theme: "Existential Threats and National Security" come at a right time as issues concerning security challenges is now becoming a global issues and threats to people and the nation at large and called for collective efforts to eradicate the menace.
The Governor also enumerated some achievements recorded so far within two years of his administration in the areas of security, free education, Agriculture, infrastructure, health care among others sighting example to procurement of over one hundred Toyota Hilux and motorcycles to security agencies, as well as paying them their allowances as agread.
He further explained that, the state government is ready to partner with any individual or organization with plans to bring peace and unity in the state and the nation at large as recently the state government hosted a series of important gatherings including, the Economic Summit convened by the Kebbi Elders Council.
Others are the General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council and the Conference of the Progressive Governors Forum and today add another milestone by hosting the security summit of the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, Alhaji Abdullahi Yelwa Yauri, said Nigeria is facing security challenges which are complicated by ethno-religious tensions, communal clashes, militancy in the Niger Delta and human trafficking.
He therefore called for collective efforts to address the issue and also urged media to help to create communal harmony and build a better society as well as to always be balanced, truthful in their reportage and avoid sensational reporting and the trivial display of human tragedy.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, the Eminent Alhaji Saad Abubakar III has call for unity and coordination as our forebears did in the era of Sardauna and urged governments at all levels to support traditional institutions are as they are designed for the protection of the states against all threats.
