By Sanusi Muhammad, Gusau

The wife of Zamfara state governor Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal has Thursday launched state level advocacy campaign on routine immunization and primary healthcare strengthening across the 14 LGAs in the state.

In her remarks during the event held at Dr. Karima Primary Healthcare Center in Gusau, Hajiya Huriyya said, keeping every child alive and healthy through routine immunisation is paramount by the state government.

"Every mother wants her child to learn, to play, to grow in strength and intelligence. But that hope begins with good health. Without health, the future becomes uncertain". She said.

According to her, there are still children who have not received any vaccines, noting that the aims of this year campaign was to ensure the zero-dose children received the immunization vaccine across the 14 LGAs in the state.

The first Lady inaugurated wives of 14 local government areas as her ambassadors, called Mama Ambassadors, for the smooth commencement of the campaign in the state.

"We are here to speak about something simple yet deeply important: keeping every child alive and healthy through routine immunisation". She said

"Our Mama Ambassadors, the wives of 14 Local Governments Chairmen, will take this message into the heart of every community.

Hajiya Huriyya urged them to remind other mothers to bring their children for immunisation, attend antenatal care and to keep regular contact with the health centres in their respective domains.

She also urged parents, traditional, religious and community leaders to work harmoniously for the success of the routine immunization campaign in the state.

She further hinted that the vaccines offered at the health centre are safe. Stressing that they have been used in Nigeria and around the world for many years.

"These vaccines protect our children from life-threatening illnesses such as measles, polio, diphtheria and tetanus, hence the need for parents to allow their children to be vaccinated in the state " she said

Also speaking, the Zamfara state chairman council of chiefs, the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad commended the wife of the governor for the initiative, promised to work hand in hand with all the relevant stakeholders to ensure successful immigration exercise.
