International Alert sensitize three Northwest's states on Alternative Dispute Resolution, access to justice

An non governmental organization International Alert Zamfara state branch, Friday, conducted a one day Technical Workshop on strengthening Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR and Linkage with formal Justice System in Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara states.


The Program Manager International Alert, Mr. Sunday Jimoh Momoh declared the workshop open.

Mr. Jimoh who was represented by the Project Officer International Alert in Zamfara state Mr. Stephen John said, the main importance of the workshop is to ensures consistency and standardization across ADR processes, enhances access to justice and reduces court backlog, Strengthens collaboration between courts, ADR Čentre, and communities.

Other important aspects of the workshop according to him is to Provides clear workflows and timelines for case handling and Guarantees culturally appropriate, trauma-sensitive dispute resolution.



He further stated that the essence of the workshop is to sensitize the three states on the significance of Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR, Access to justice and decongestion of courts in resolving dispute related matters among communities through the establishment of Multi-Door Courthouse.



Mr. Jimoh also appealed to Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara states government on the need for speedy passing of the bill for the establishment of Multi-Door Courthouse into law for proper implementation in the three states.



He explained that the International Alert as partner, no will continue working harmoniously with the three states to ensure the bill for the establishment of Multi-Door Courthouse has been assented into law for access to justice.

He emphasized the need for training for judges, mediators, community leaders, ADR staff, and psychosocial teams to ensure effective implementation of the SOP in the three states.

He stated that the International Alert focuses on peacebuilding and resolving conflicts without violence and ensure access to justice particularly among the communities.



"This workshop defines the responsibilities of all actors such as judges, Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre staff, mediators, traditional leaders, LGA liaison units, and psychosocial support teams". Mr. Jimoh stated

Our Correspondent reports that the participants of the workshop were drawn from the state ministry of Justice of Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara, traditional, religious leaders and security agencies.
