The wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has disbursed 10,000 modern Sanitary Pads to ten thousand secondary school girls students in Zamfara state under the renewed hope initiative"Flow with Confidence" .
Speaking during the distribution, held at government girls day secondary school Gusau, Sen. Tinubu said, each beneficiary will receive one-year supply of the pads.
The First Lady who was represented by the wife of Zamfara state Governor Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal stated that, the gesture will reach Three Hundred and Seventy Thousand (370,000) school girls in rural communities across the nation at the end of the programme.
The First Lady emphasized that the Renewed Hope Initiative “Flow with Confidence” is a vital menstrual health intervention, designed to empower our precious school girls by promoting knowledge, dignity and confidence through improved menstrual hygiene in Zamfara state.
Sen. Tinubu said, all States and the Federal Capital Territory will receive 10,000 packs each with a view to support our girls in rural communities and those who are unable to afford sanitary pads.
According to her, the disposable sanitary pads will offers a simple, hygienic option that offers better health benefits for a woman’s reproductive well-being.
"At the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), we believe that no girl should ever have to choose between her dignity and her education".
Huriyya Dauda Lawal also appealed to 14 Chairmen of Local Government Areas in the state, to give their critical position as the arm of government closest to the people in delivering essential services.
"It is crucial that you take ownership of this intervention, scale-up and ensure these supplies get directly to deserving girls in our rural communities."
"The Renewed Hope Initiative spent a total of over two billion Naira to procure these customised disposable sanitary pads and is free of charge ."
The first Lady urged corporate organisations, parastatals and agencies, and well-meaning Nigerians to key into the Flow with Confidence programme, so that we can empower and reach as many girls as possible.
She further urged traditional, religious and community leaders, on the need to monitor the distribution exercise in their communities and ensure to support our girls to grow into responsible and informed adults.
To our dear students and beneficiaries: this is for you. Make the most of it and do not sell the pads. Stay in school, study hard, support one another and never allow shame or stigma to take away your confidence".
