The wife of Zamfara state governor Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal flagged Off 2025 sixteen days activism on gender based violence as part of her office dedication in the fight against violence against women in the state.
The sixteen days activism on gender based violence is an annual global commemoration that specifically advocated for violence against women.
The commemoration was organized by the office of the Zamfara state First Lady in collaboration with the state ministry for women and social development.
In a remarks, the First Lady described the Gender-based violence as a factor that remains a profound threat to our social wellbeing and development, hence the need for a movement to call for unity, action and accountability.
Our Priorities this year is to Strengthening the enforcement of laws that protect survivors, Supporting access to justice for victims of online and offline abuse, Working hand-in-hand with security agencies to protect communities, Expanding safe spaces, psychosocial support, counselling and Promoting digital safety, responsible online behavior, and cybercrime reporting and Ending stigma, silence, and harmful cultural practice". She said
Our Correspondent reports that this year’s theme is a powerful reminder that “Digital violence is real violence.
"This fight needs every one of us government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, law enforcement, educators, NGOs, journalists, market women, youth groups, and our media". Hajiya Huriyya stated
She called on youths as a generation of the digital age on the need to use their voice to uplift not to tear down.
"Use technology for innovation, not intimidation. Respect is your responsibility online and offline." She added
