Commissioning the Centre which was named after her, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal said, the centre is more than a building but represented a firm response to a problem that affects families across our communities.
"While women and girls often bear the greatest burden of sexual and gender-based violence, we must acknowledge a truth that is frequently ignored, men and boys are also victims of abuse."
She stated that the Centre will serve all survivors of gender based violence noting that everyone deserve protection, justice and a safe space to seek help without shame or fear.
"I am especially humbled by the honour of having this centre named after me, I appreciate this gesture deeply and I accept it as a reminder of the responsibility I carry to continue advocating for the vulnerable and ensuring that survivors are never left without support". She said
