Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital , representing President Bola Tinubu and sympathize with the families of the 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, on Monday.
Addressing newsmen at Government House Birnin Kebbi, Shettima said he in the state to commiserate with the state government and reassure parents of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the Federal Government is working to ensure their immediate rescue.
Shettima described the incident as worrysome, unfortunate and assured government effort in rescuing the abducted students and called on parents to support them with prayers and the security agencies working in the state with useful and timely information to avoid the reoccurrence of the event in future
He commended Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris for efforts made to avert the schoolgirls’ kidnapping, despite earlier intelligence warnings of a likely bandit strike.
The Vice President urged communities particularly those in high-risk areas to strengthen cooperation with security agencies by sharing timely information that could aid military, police, and DSS operations
According to him, President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has already directed security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the safe return of the girls, adding that federal government has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to rescue the girls and restore peace to the region.
In an interview, Governor Nasir Idris of the state said they deeply touched with the abduction of such innocent girls who are seeking for knowledge on order to become leaders of tomorrow as well as useful members of their respective communities.
He assured the parents of the abducted students that, kebbi state and federal governments they would everything possible to rescue the schoolgirls
Shettima, accompanied by Director-General of NEMA Zubaida Umar and other senior officials, is currently meeting with Governor Nasir Idris, stakeholders, and concerned individuals at the Government House.
