16 days of activism on GBV: Zamfara First Lady moves to end GBV through digital space

The wife of Zamfara state Governor Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed her office commitment to stand together with all stakeholders to safeguard secondary school girls and vulnerable women from gender based violence through the digital space.
The First Lady made the pronouncement while distributing of personal hygiene kits to 1000 secondary school girls held at Government Girls Day Secondary School Galadima in Damba area on Friday.
According to her, the digital violence is not imaginary, it is real, noting that its impact can be deeply damaging.
"We must stand together to safeguard ourselves and others in online spaces, Let us build a culture where everyone feels secure, respected and protected". She said
The First Lady further stated that the Gender-Based Violence is no longer just physical; it is now also in the digital space.
She maintained that her office, in collaboration with UNICEF, distributed the Personal Hygiene Kits to 1,000 students today with a view to to support the benefiting girls students and remind them of their value.
"Use these kits well, care for yourselves and always remember that you deserve to live confidently and without fear. You all should be mindful of what you post online, as the internet never forgets". She said
Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal pointed out that the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Sexual Assault Referral Centre at King Fahad Women and Children Hospital in Gusau was established to support survivors of Gender Based Violence GBV, Medical care, legal guidance, and professional counselling.
She urged the girls students and other vulnerable women to always speak out, seek help and know that they are are not alone.
"Everyone must work together to end GBV, let us encourage one another to report any form of digital harassment or bullying without fear". The First Lady contended
"Let us stand together and say no to all forms of online abuse and by uniting, we can build a brighter future for Zamfara State, one where every girl can learn, grow and thrive in safety". She said
